SAN DIEGO
Cost of Child Care Study

Background and Overview

Building upon the San Diego County Child Care Blueprint and the California Cost of Care Study, the County of San Diego has partnered with Prenatal to Five Fiscal Strategies to understand child care market rates and to gain a deeper understanding of the costs associated with out-of-school-time care.

P5FS is administering an online survey to learn more about market rates as well as program and provider expenses and operations. Information about the online survey  is available on this page.

Provider Survey

The online survey offers and opportunity to help policymakers understand the investment needed to support child care providers, children, and families. Child care providers are encouraged to participate, including

  • child care and development centers,

  • family child care homes, and

  • out-of-school time programs.

To minimize burden on providers, this study will use the cost data from San Diego child care and development providers who responded to the 2022 California Cost of Child Care Study. All child care and development providers will be asked about tuition and family fees, and out-of-school time (OST) providers will be asked additional cost questions, as very few OST providers participated in the 2022 statewide study.

The survey is available in multiple languages. Interviews can be held, as requested, to help complete the survey. To access the survey please click the link below
